    Head of Learning Area - HASS: Full-time (1.0 FTE)  commencing in January 2026


    The Head of the Learning Area is a key leadership role within the College and is responsible for the delivery of innovative curriculum, improving teaching and learning and the leadership and development of staff.


    The Position:


    Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


    Leadership Responsibilities:



    • Curriculum & Professional Development: Lead curriculum initiatives with a focus on the Western Australian Curriculum and WACE courses. Support staff in ongoing professional learning and development in collaboration with College leadership.

    • Professional Networking & External Engagement: Maintain relationships with relevant external groups and networks (e.g., professional associations, Schools Curriculum and Standards Authority), participate in WACE panels, and stay informed on HASS Learning Area research and best practices.

    • Performance & Expectations: Set professional expectations for staff, support their appraisal and performance management, and encourage professional growth through development opportunities.


    Teaching and Learning Responsibilities:



    • Innovative Programme Development: Design engaging, differentiated programs that meet diverse student needs and abilities.

    • Instructional Leadership: Model and promote contemporary teaching practices, including effective use of ICT.

    • Student Support & Collaboration: Work closely with the Inclusive Learning Coordinator and staff across learning areas to support students at risk.

    • Teaching Component: Participate directly in classroom teaching as part of the role.


    Administration Management:



    • Course Implementation & Compliance: Ensure alignment of Senior School courses with School Curriculum and Standards Authority requirements, managing data submissions within deadlines.

    • Assessment Oversight: Maintain assessment standards and consistency across the Learning Area.

    • Information & Promotion: Update course handbooks and actively promote HASS courses.

    • Meeting Coordination: Organise and document monthly Learning Area meetings, and attend HOLA and Middle Management meetings.

    • Budget & Resource Management: Oversee the HASS Learning Area’s budget and resource allocation.


    Essential Knowledge and Experience:

    • relevant tertiary qualifications and experience related to the teaching responsibility required by the position

    Additional Requirements:

    About Studio Schools of Australia Ltd


    Studio Schools of Australia (SSA) was established in 2019 to bring about a “system” level change in secondary education for Indigenous students in remote communities across northern Australia. This “system level” reform is based on well-established evidence of what works for Indigenous students, their families and communities, in a scalable, proven work-related model of education introduced at the Yiramalay / Wesley Studio School in the Kimberley, Western Australia, in 2010.     Overview


    The Administrative Research Assistant for the Indigenous Education and Research Centre (IERC) provides high-level administrative and project support across all areas of the IERC’s work. The successful candidate will be a highly organised and proactive professional, capable of managing diverse responsibilities from data-driven research tasks to supporting staff development and operational logistics. A deep respect for and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures is fundamental to success in this role.


    The Administrative Research Assistant, IERC reports to the Deputy CEO - School performance and the IERC (Deputy CEO).


    Key Responsibilities




    1. IERC Research & Data Support:






    • Provide comprehensive administrative support to Deputy CEO.




    • Assist with research projects, including data collection, entry, validation, and preliminary analysis.




    • Coordinate the preparation and submission of research documentation, including ethics applications and literature reviews.




    • Compile, format, and proofread reports, papers, and presentations to a professional standard.




    • Organise events, logistics, and catering for professional development workshops and meetings undertaken by the IERC.




    • Assist the Deputy CEO with reports to the SSA Board.






    1. On-Site support for school improvement:






    • In collaboration with school leadership, coordinate the development and implementation of the Professional Learning program for staff across the year.




    • Support staff with professional compliance requirements, including assisting them to obtain their WA WWCC, National Police Check, and complete mandatory Child Protection training and SSA Policy Acknowledgement.




    • Identify and facilitate development of further study opportunities for staff.






    1. General Administration:






    • Prepare agendas and take accurate, detailed minutes for key meetings.




    • Manage sensitive information with the highest degree of discretion and confidentiality.




    • Perform other duties as directed to meet the evolving needs of the IERC.




    Qualifications and Experience




    • A relevant qualification in Business Administration, Education Support, Social Science, or a related field, and/or equivalent demonstrated experience.




    • Demonstrated experience in an administrative role supporting senior management.




    • High-level proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).




    Skills and Capabilities




    • Superior written and verbal skills for professional documentation and respectful cross-cultural interaction.




    • Proven ability to use initiative, prioritise tasks, and work effectively under pressure with minimal supervision.




    • Maturity to handle sensitive information with integrity and maintain strict confidentiality.

    Overview


    The Community Engagement Officer and Registrar reports to the Deputy CEO and plays a key role in fostering strong relationships between the school and its community while managing student enrolment and records.     Overview


    The Wellbeing Services Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring the holistic development, health, and wellbeing of students. This involves working closely with the Principal, the school nurse, the female and male senior residential mentors, teachers, parents/carers, and community members to ensure that all students are provided with appropriate opportunities to reach their full potential. 


    The Wellbeing Services Coordinator reports to the Principal and works closely with them to maintain high levels of pastoral care, strong community relationships, and a positive school environment characterised by high-expectations relationships.     Overview


    The Maintenance Officer is responsible for ensuring that SSA’s school facilities are safe, clean, functional, and well-maintained. This role contributes to a positive learning environment by undertaking routine maintenance, repairs, and facility improvement projects.


    This position reports to the Facilities Manager and ultimately to the Principal.


    Key Responsibilities



    • Carry out general maintenance and repair tasks across all school facilities, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and other trade-related duties.

    • Conduct regular inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify potential issues early and implement timely solutions.

    • Maintain detailed and up-to-date records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and service schedules for facilities and equipment.

    • Collaborate effectively with Indigenous staff, students, and community members to ensure facilities are culturally appropriate, functional, and safe.

    • Support health, safety, and compliance initiatives by reporting hazards, completing risk assessments, and adhering to workplace safety regulations.

    • Assist with the planning, preparation, and execution of special projects, renovations, and facility upgrades as directed by the Facilities Manager.

    The Program Activities Coordinator is responsible for developing and delivering a high-quality program of events, experiences, and activities that enrich the residential boarding experience for students. 


    Working closely with the Wellbeing Services Coordinator, staff, and community partners, the Coordinator ensures programs promote personal growth, health and wellbeing, resilience, leadership, community engagement, teamwork, and enjoyment. Activities may include on-country excursions, horse riding, sporting competitions, house challenges, trivia nights, and leadership initiatives.


    The role typically requires after-school, evening, and weekend work, according to operational needs. The position reports to the Principal.

    • Design and implement a residential activities program that enhances student wellbeing during afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
