Description

A two-month mixed delivery course designed for school leaders and EALD specialist teachers to plan for effective practices to strengthen the support for English as an Additional Language/Dialect students.

This course aims to bring EALD specialists and school leaders together to explore effective strategies and practices to support multilingual students. The course comprises of a full day workshop (in person), ongoing on-line discussion and a final 90-minute webinar to share evaluations and future plans for improvement. Participants will have access to an online portal for professional reading, resources, access to the 'EALD Hub' (an additional online course focussed on EALD Aboriginal learners), and a discussion forum.

The intended target audience includes school leaders and EALD teachers from schools that have:
- a large cohort of students who speak an additional language or dialect at home
- a growing number of EALD enrolments, particularly permanent new arrival migrants from non-English speaking backgrounds
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who speak one or more Aboriginal languages, a creole and/or Aboriginal English
- international fee paying students.

Schools are encouraged to send two or more staff to this event – with preference for one staff member working in a leadership role.

Schools will be invoiced for payment, depending on the number of participants attending according to the pricing schedule below.

Teaching And Learning Consultant - Languages

Kate Reitzenstein <span>(AISWA Staff)</span>

Kate Reitzenstein has worked as Consultant for Languages of the Association of Independent Schools of WA since 2014. She organises professional development activities and provides advice to schools and teachers on policy, curriculum and resources. Prior to this role, Kate worked as an Indonesian language teacher for fifteen years at three secondary schools, with experience using the Curriculum Framework and the Middle Years Program and Diploma Program of the International Baccalaureate curriculum. She has worked as an EFL/ESL teacher in Australia and abroad, and has had experience as an International Student Coordinator and at establishing overseas school partnerships and in-country study tours. Kate places importance on effective language teaching methodology and the need to link theory to practice in the Languages classroom.
