Description

This face-to-face workshop is designed for both new and experienced ATAR Physics teachers, with a strong focus on effective assessment practices. The session will support teachers to better align in-school assessments and marking keys with the expectations of SCSA examinations, ensuring greater consistency and validity in student evaluation.

Participants will explore strategies for designing high-quality, discriminating assessment items that accurately differentiate student performance, alongside targeted discussions around physics-specific content, common misconceptions, and marking expectations. The workshop will also unpack SCSA statistical data, building teachers’ understanding of standardisation and moderation processes and how these inform assessment decisions in ATAR Physics.

Led by Jacob Marai, current Head of Physics at CCGS, with 12 years in the classroom and a strong track record of achieving top-performing results, the session will combine expert insight with practical application. Opportunities will be provided for collegial discussion, reflection, and the sharing of resources to support ongoing improvement in assessment design and practice.

Outcomes

  • Design aligned, discriminating assessment tasks and marking keys that reflect the standards and expectations of ATAR Physics examinations.
  • Interpret SCSA statistical data to inform assessment design.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve consistency and quality of assessment practices.
