Description
Join us for an engaging workshop where Andrea will demonstrate practical strategies and tools designed to empower both teachers and learners in supporting student growth. Throughout the workshop, Andrea shares high-impact strategies and tools she uses with teachers and learners to support students to:
•Activate and build background knowledge
•Strengthen vocabulary through explicit, rich, and playful practice
•Recognise and unpack language structures
•Apply verbal reasoning to infer, justify, predict, and make connections
•Develop metacognitive habits for monitoring and repairing understanding
Participants are invited to bring mentor texts to make connections and plan throughout the day.
Outcomes
- Understand how comprehension fits within learning programs.
- Develop strategies to make the invisible thinking of readers visible.
- Learn practical routines for modelling comprehension.
- Engage tools that promote dialogue, deeper thinking, and authentic student responses.

She has extensive experience teaching in the early years and leading as an Early Childhood Coordinator, Deputy Head of Primary and Head of Primary. She is committed to leading, demonstrating and advocating for educational excellence in the early years and beyond.

Andrea Hillbrick is a highly experienced educator and educational consultant with over 30 years of expertise. She is dedicated to empowering teachers and enhancing classroom practices through innovative strategies and resources. Andrea specialises in creating engaging and practical teaching ideas, across the curriculum. She is passionate about designing professional learning experiences that inspire educators, offering masterclasses, book studies, and resource-rich hubs. Andrea has developed 1000+ takeaway teaching ideas and supports teachers who strive to make a difference in their students' learning journeys.
