In partnership with Grange Insurance, these sessions provides a practical overview of risk management in schools.
Designed for Principals and Executive Leadership teams, including Business Managers, Risk Managers and IT teams, it focuses on responding effectively to incidents and operational risks.
Participants will learn how to act decisively to minimise damage and protect their school’s operations and reputation.
Session 1: Cyber Incident Response and Managing Cyber Incidents
Learn how schools can prepare for, respond to and recover from cyber incidents. This session explores the critical first 24 hours following a cyber event, common response mistakes, third-party cyber risks, and the important role executives and boards play in leading an effective incident response.
Session 2: Deadly Weapons Protection and Crisis Support
Understand the risks associated with serious security incidents and how schools can be better prepared to respond. This session will outline available support services, crisis management resources, financial protection considerations, and lessons learned from real-world claims scenarios.
Session 3: Risk, Responsibility and Resilience in Schools
Explore the broad range of risks facing schools today, from cyber threats and student safety concerns to extreme weather, reputational issues and governance challenges. Through practical case studies and real-life examples, participants will consider how to strengthen preparedness, respond effectively to incidents and build a more resilient school community.
Rather than focusing on insurance products, these sessions challenge school leaders to consider three critical questions:
Do we understand our risks?
Do we know how we would respond?
And do we know how our insurance would respond?
Participants will leave with practical ideas to take back to their leadership teams and a fresh perspective on building a more resilient school.

Diana Currie (AISWA Staff)
Consultant | School Business Management
Diana Currie is the Consultant, School Business Management at AISWA. She joined AISWA in June 2019 as Business Practices and Contracts Manager and has since held roles within the Finance Directorate.
A qualified CPA, Diana brings extensive experience from her 15 years as a Business Manager in a K-12 day and boarding school environment, providing her with a strong understanding of the operational and financial challenges facing schools.
Since 2024, Diana’s role has focused on supporting finance teams across AISWA member schools through tailored professional development opportunities, practical guidance, and advice on emerging legislative requirements and government funding arrangements.
Diana is the primary point of contact for Business Managers and school finance professionals seeking assistance with financial management, funding, compliance, governance, and other school business management matters.
Dean Cook
Dean Cook began his career at QBE Insurance in 2001, where he gained extensive experience as a commercial underwriter. In 2006, he transitioned to a general insurance brokerage in Perth, managing a significant portfolio of commercial clients. In December 2011, Dean became an Authorised Representative at Grange Insurance Solutions and was appointed Director of Grange on January 1, 2016. He is dedicated to delivering exceptional service and advice to his clients as well as having a keen focus on driving the cultural values and goals of the company.
