This hands-on session will guide Business Managers, Principals and Board members through using Somerset Education reports to analyse financial statements, identify trends, and make informed decisions. 

Learn to interpret key financial ratios, set performance targets, and adopt best-practice budgeting and reporting. Topics include financial distress recovery, profitability, solvency, sustainability, and financial forecasting. Diana is the current Consultant, School Business Management, having joined AISWA in June 2019 as the Business Practices and Contracts Manager, and more recently working in the Finance Directorate. Diana is a qualified CPA Accountant, having worked as a Business Manager for a K-12 Day & Boarding school for 15 years.

John Somerset

John Somerset

With 37 years of experience in chartered accounting, including 28 years specialising in the financial governance of non-government schools, he supports school leaders in making confident and well-informed financial decisions. He operates the Financial Survey for Schools, engaging over 700 schools annually across Australia and New Zealand. He is currently extending his master's research on financial sustainability with a PhD. His career highlights include establishing industry frameworks and serving as director and chair within Independent Schools Queensland and Independent Schools Australia, making valuable contributions to the sector.
