Create, Collaborate and Communicate: Using digital technologies in the Languages Classroom PL

To keep pace with the ever-changing face of digital technologies in the classroom, AISWA Languages Consultants, Clare and Kate have continued to offer this specific digital technology workshop for language teachers attracting registrations from all three sectors.

Hosted at the newly renovated AISWA Offices, this practical workshop introduced teachers to apps and platforms which they can easily use in a languages classroom to create content, communicate and to collaborate.

Beginning with a focus on simple iPad apps such as Funny Movie Maker, ChatterKid and ABC Art Maker, participants were given time to play and create their own content to upload to the shared platform, Seesaw. Here are some comments from participants:

Was great to have time to actually try out the apps and create something. We don’t often have time to do this!”
“Extremely useful and engaging. Found lots of apps that I can use in class. Thank you!”

The next session introduced more apps and also some platforms. Participants chose a few they wanted to explore further and were given time to experiment. Some of the more popular ones were TextingStory, Wordwall, Blooket and BookCreator.

“Lots of information on how to use digital technologies, very hands on.”

In the final part of the day, participants shared with the group how they would use their selected apps and platforms in their languages classroom and where the app would sit on the Padagogy Wheel.

“This workshop is amazing. It has given me lots of great ideas to improve my teaching and make learning more fun for my students. Thank you for this wonderful session.”

Participants were reminded that although technology can enhance language learning, it should never replace good pedagogy.
