APPortunities to Shine: AISWA's Newest Publication

APPortunities to Shine Book Cover

Using Mobile Technologies in Classrooms and Other Amazing Places

APPortunities to Shine is AISWA's newest publication and will be available for purchase from the AISWA Bookstore from 23 November 2016.

In this publication, teachers from Independent Schools in Western Australia share their stories about learning to leverage the best features of mobile technologies in interesting and varied ways to support student engagement and learning.

Jan Clarke, AISWA's ICT Integration consultant, led a collaborative professional effort that contributed to creating a collection of 15 teachers’ stories from Independent Schools across WA. The stories come from P-12 classrooms across the state and include a diverse range of examples of hand-held devices being used for rich, multifaceted tasks and/or in active, flexible learning environments. Process diagrams, curriculum links, teacher reflections and AISWA support resources have been included. The introduction highlights advantages, options and implications for using mobile technologies in educational settings.

The cover artwork was commissioned especially for AISWA by Margaret River artist Rebecca Cool. It depicts students from Penrhos College, Wesley College, Christ Church Grammar School, Scotch College, Lake Joondalup Baptist College and Hale School participating in augmented reality activities by the Swan River (Derbal Yerrigan).
