High Tech Ideas for Low Tech Classrooms

In the first of a series of Language Learning & Technologies workshops, presenter Penelope Coutas gave a ‘Show and Tell’ of tips and tricks for the classroom, particularly those where ICT access is limited.

From simple and fun gadgets to engage learners such as quiz buzzers, classroom timers, Plickers and using QR codes to practical ideas about hardware such as using shoe organisers for storage, comparing headsets, microphones and adapters, Penelope demonstrated a variety of tried and tested ideas. Participants also learnt about Post Its Plus as a means of storing, organising and managing collaborateive ideas and Green Screening for creating backdrops for video podcasts and for real time role-plays. Although time was limited to a 2 hour session, participants walked away with a very low tech (ie paper copy) summary loaded with hundreds of ideas and threads to follow up on and discover technologies to suit their own contexts.

Don't miss Penelope's upcoming sessions in this series: Digital Footprints and Digital Feedback in 1:1 BYOT/BYOD Language Learning Environments.
