SMYL Community College is a Curriculum and Re-engagement in Education School, seeking the services of a Psychologist to work from our College in Rockingham and Mandurah The College caters specifically for young people aged 14-17 years, who have disengaged or are at-risk of disengaging from mainstream education. The College offers a full-time alternative education program under the School Education Act 1999. The College Student Support Team is comprised of Aboriginal Support Workers, Youth Workers, Registered Psychologists and Clinical Psychologists whose task it is to enhance the resilience of students and support them to re-engage in education and training. Duties will include:
- Provide assessment of, and short to medium term therapeutic intervention to, referred students;
- Consultation with trainers/teachers, including classroom observation and providing plans and support to assist in management of concerning or difficult behaviours;
- Identify students that may require additional funding to meet their needs within the school;
- Assessment of needs and referral to external support and treatment services as required;
- Consultation with parents;
- Complete funding applications for students;
- Conduct fortnightly case reviews with, and provide clinical supervision of, crisis support and re-engagement staff;
- Participate in enrolment screening process on a negotiated ‘as needs’ basis;
- Needs assessment of students who are returning after suspension or exclusion as required; and
- Refer training/teaching staff to AISWA psychology support as appropriate.
Selection Criteria:
- Accredited Masters, Doctorate or equivalent degree in Psychology from an AHPRA approved programme or equivalent.
- Registered as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia and eligible for approved supervisor standing.
- Ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals and external agencies both on individual patient management matters and on general service issues.
- Current knowledge of legislative obligations for Equal Opportunity, Disability Services and Occupational Safety and Health, and how these impact on employment and service delivery.
- Current drivers licence.

- Completion of 100 point identification check.
- Completion of criminal record screening clearance.
- Completion of reference/integrity check.
- Working with Children check.
