About the Role
A rewarding opportunity is available for a motivated and suitably qualified Performing Arts Theatre Technician to support staff and students across the School’s Performing Arts program.
The Performing Arts Theatre Technician plays a vital role in the delivery of teaching activities, rehearsals and performances by coordinating and operating technical theatre elements under the direction of the Head of Arts.
The role involves responsibility for the daily operation, maintenance and safe use of the Performing Arts Centre and associated technical equipment, as well as providing technical support for assemblies, chapel services, events and performances across the School’s campuses.
This position requires flexibility, with some evening and weekend work associated with rehearsals, events and performances.
This is a fixed term part-time position for Term 2 2026 to cover Long Service Leave.
Key Responsibilities
The Performing Arts Theatre Technician will:
- Maintain the Performing Arts Centre, ensuring sound, lighting and audio‑visual systems are operational and presented to a high standard
- Coordinate and operate technical elements for classes, rehearsals, performances and School events
- Liaise with staff regarding technical requirements and effective use of facilities
- Oversee the safe operation, setup and pack‑down of technical equipment and staging
- Assist with set construction, scenery, props and front‑of‑house operations
- Support technical operations for assemblies, chapel services, sports centre events and activities across primary campuses
- Assist, when appropriate, with instruction and supervision of students in technical theatre operations
- Ensure all work practices comply with Occupational Health and Safety requirements
- Assist with equipment research, budgeting and general administration related to Performing Arts facilities
- Undertake other duties as directed by the Head of Arts, Business Manager or Principal

The successful candidate will:

Hold a technical theatre qualification at tertiary level (desirable)

Have experience in a professional theatre or similar environment (desirable)

Demonstrate proven expertise in audio, lighting and audio‑visual equipment

Be highly organised with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment

Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills

Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently and as part of a team

Be flexible and available to work evenings and weekends as required

Demonstrate empathy with and support for the School’s Christian values

Hold a current Working with Children Check

Hold a current Police Clearance

Hold a current ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence
