Position Overview

Position Title: Acting Deputy Principal (Primary)
Reports to: Principal
Commencement: April 2026 (by negotiation)
Contract: Fixed-term until 31 December 2026
Salary: $140,000 – $160,000 (excluding superannuation), by negotiation

HillSide Christian College is seeking a committed, capable and Christ-centred educational leader to serve as Acting Deputy Principal (Primary). This is a key Executive role responsible for leading the Primary School (Kindergarten-Year 6) and contributing to the overall strategic direction of the College.

About the Role

The Acting Deputy Principal (Primary) will provide strong spiritual, educational and operational leadership within the Primary School. The successful applicant will play a significant role in shaping the culture, staff development, and student outcomes of the College, ensuring alignment with the College’s Vision, Mission and Christian foundation.

This role encompasses leadership across:

  • Christian education and spiritual formation

  • Student wellbeing and pastoral care

  • Staff performance and development (aligned with AITSL standards)

  • Curriculum leadership (Australian Curriculum, K–6, within a K–12 framework)

  • Strategic planning and continuous improvement

  • Operational oversight of the Primary School

  •

The successful applicant will be:

  • A servant-hearted leader with demonstrated experience in educational leadership

You will bring both spiritual maturity and professional excellence, with a proven ability to lead staff, manage operations, and improve student outcomes.

 


 

Key Responsibilities

The Acting Deputy Principal (Primary) will:

  • Provide professional and spiritual leadership to Primary staff

  • Contribute as an active member of the College Executive Team

  • Lead and implement policies and procedures relevant to the Primary School

  • Oversee staff performance, mentoring, and professional growth

  • Drive curriculum development and ensure compliance (SCSA, NQS)

  • Lead strategic planning and school improvement initiatives

  • Facilitate Primary staff meetings and communication

  • Oversee timetabling and operational planning

  • Support ICT integration in teaching and learning

  • Promote student wellbeing, leadership and Christian character formation

  • Work collaboratively across K–12 leadership structures

  • Assist in budgeting and resource stewardship

  • Proven leadership experience in a school setting

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • The ability to build and sustain effective professional relationships

  • Experience in staff management and performance development

  • Operational capability in managing a Primary School environment

  • Strategic thinking and the ability to lead change

  • Personal attributes including humility, integrity, and resilience


 

Selection Criteria

Applicants must address the following:

  1. 1. Demonstrated leadership experience and impact in a school setting

  2. 2. Knowledge and implementation of educational policy and practice

  3. 3. Interpersonal and communication skills, including conflict resolution

  4. 4. Operational management experience (events, staffing, initiatives)

  5. 5. Personal Christian faith, church involvement, and ministry experience


 

About the College

HillSide Christian College is a ministry of HillSide Church and has been serving the community since 1977. The College provides Christ-centred education from Kindergarten to Year 12, with approximately 460 students enrolled, including 230 in the Primary School.

The College is governed by its own Board and is committed to delivering high-quality education within a distinctly evangelical Christian framework.

Additional Information

  1. Full-time position (no teaching load)

  2. Personal Assistant support provided

  3. Fixed-term contract with a six-month probation period

  4. Employment subject to signing the College’s Code of Conduct and Employment Contract
