Description
Respectful relationships and consent education is explicitly recognised within the Australian Curriculum. However, how it is taught remains largely up to individual schools and teachers. This creates both a challenge and opportunity for teachers to design engaging, meaningful learning experiences for their students.
This interactive network session will explore innovative, evidence-informed approaches to teaching respectful relationships and consent in upper primary and secondary school settings. Drawing on research findings, participants in the session will be introduced to creative strategies and activities which have been shown to increase student engagement and topic relevance.
Participants will engage in practical activities, reflect collaboratively with peers, and explore how these approaches can be adapted to their own school contexts to strengthen relationships and sexuality education.
Outcomes
- Understand the current context of consent and respectful relationships education
- Identify innovative, evidence-informed strategies and resources to engage students
- Apply practical approaches to consent and respectful relationships education in upper primary and secondary settings
