Description
Are you starting out as a second language teacher or returned to the profession after a break? The two-day “Teaching Languages: Principles and Practice” professional learning workshop will introduce (or re-introduce) you to set of guiding principles to help you plan and deliver your Languages program. Principles explored include the importance of order and sequence of language acquisition, the role of language input and importance of creating meaningful opportunities for output and the role of a ‘language practice’ v’s ‘language use’ task for learning and assessment. Participants will have the chance to develop a 5-10 week learning module, and develop a rich learning task for assessment, for use in the short term in their individual school contexts. It is expected that teachers registering for this PL will attend both days (total 13 hours PL).
This professional learning workshop has been delivered annually since 2014 and here is what some participants had to say about it:
"I have learnt so much about programming, all with practical advice to help us through the process. My job ahead seems so much more achievable now, I will certainly be utilising the programming format that we were introduced to in the course."
"It was really well presented and possibly the best PL I have attended in years. It was very useful to have Kate attend to individual and group needs. It was useful to discuss and explore ideas with fellow Language teachers. The assessment tasks were fantastic."
"I found the workshop really useful, I valued the fact that was very dynamic and perfectly structured."
"It was fantastic to have explained how the language acquisition theory looked like in practice. I was able to integrate them into my existing program."
