9.00 – 10.30am – Pre-primary, Year 1 and Year 2
11.00am  - 12.30pm – Year 3 and Year 4
1.30 – 3.00pm -  Year 5 and Year 6

During this 90 min workshop we will:

Part 1

  • Overview the context and scope of the Humanities Learning Area
  • Review the terminology of the mandated Western Australian Curriculum (WAC) compared to the Australian Curriculum (AC), including links to the General Capabilities and Cross Curriculum Priorities.
  • Explore online support materials, including SCSA Assessment outline and the Judging Standards tool
     

Part 2

  • The teaching and learning sequence of a Humanities inquiry is unpacked; key terms and concepts are explored.
  • Using the content, key concepts and inquiry questions for each year level, we will then collaborate to create interdisciplinary units of work with tangible links to other Learning Areas.
  • Resources and online support materials are discussed and documented.

Maree Whiteley works with teachers and curriculum leaders to bring innovative and practical pedagogies into the classroom, through special projects and whole-school planning. Currently working as an AISWA Consultant in the Primary Teaching and Learning area, with specific expertise within the Humanities and Social Sciences Learning Area, this gives Maree the perfect platform to go beyond the curriculum, exploring areas of global imperatives for our young people, such as ethical and humanitarian issues, critical thinking and cultural competence. Maree continues to enjoy sharing her experience, knowledge and expertise with others in workshops, conferences and in online forums.
