This English Network Day is an opportunity for HOLAs and other interested teachers to meet and discuss current issues in the teaching of Secondary English, share resources and ideas, and engage in professional learning.
This networking session is conducted in conjunction with Catholic Education WA.

Disability, DSE and Personalised Learning - Understanding Inclusion in a Mainstream Secondary English Classroom
Presenter: Paula Duggan (CEWA)
- This session will review the definition of disability and examine the processes and adjustments used when catering for the individual needs of students.
- There will be opportunities for teachers to explore a structured approach for personalised learning using adjustments to both curriculum and methods of assessment.

- The Bildungsroman - from the Victorian novel, to Harry Potter, to YA
- Twentieth Century Tragedy
Presenter: Dr Ned Curthoys (UWA)
Dr Ned Curthoys’ research on the Bildungsroman offers new insights into this subgenre, with implications right across the Secondary English spectrum. We’ll identify some key elements of the genre, and look at its relationships with epic, quest narratives, and historical fiction, as well as talking about why the Bildungsroman flourishes and endures.
The second part of the session focuses on The Crucible (Miller) and A Streetcar Named Desire (Williams), and will be of particular interest to current and prospective Literature and English ATAR teachers.
