Description
This project is specifically designed for K–2 educators who are eager to integrate inquiry-based learning into their teaching practice. Guided by Kath Murdoch, an internationally recognised consultant renowned for her expertise in inquiry, participants will be supported throughout the journey. The focus of the project is on enhancing pedagogy and empowering children to be capable, curious, and actively engaged learners. Educators will delve into practical strategies and collaboratively design experiences that nurture children’s skills and attitudes for lifelong learning across all areas of the curriculum. The program aims to strengthen students’ abilities as self-managers, collaborators, communicators, researchers, thinkers, and valued contributors within their communities. Each educator will undertake a personalised professional inquiry, seamlessly woven into their everyday classroom teaching, fostering both professional growth and student engagement.
Outcomes
- Become familiar with a range of inquiry approaches.
- Investigate ways to implement inquiry approaches effectively within their classrooms.
- Create a focused inquiry project to implement in their classroom.
- Reflect on the successes and challenges arising from the project.

Debbie Bolton is a dedicated and passionate educator who has spent the past 35 years in schools in Western Australia and England. She has extensive experience teaching in the early years and leading as an Early Childhood Coordinator, Deputy Head of Primary and Head of Primary. Debbie has a proven track record in curriculum development, pastoral care and staff support. She is committed to leading, demonstrating and advocating for educational excellence in the early years and beyond.
Kath Murdoch
Kath Murdoch is a highly regarded educator, author, and consultant with extensive experience across Australia, New Zealand, Asia, America, and Europe. Renowned for her expertise in inquiry-based learning and integrative curriculum, Kath’s work spans over 20 years as a teacher, researcher, and writer. A former Melbourne classroom teacher, she remains actively involved in teaching, coaching, and leading professional development worldwide. Kath’s practical, inclusive approach supports both new and experienced teachers, and her influence is evident in leading curriculum frameworks such as the International Baccalaureate’s PYP program.
