Description
Kath Murdoch is a fellow of the University of Melbourne and an internationally renowned consultant, teacher and author who has researched and published widely in the field of inquiry-based learning. Kath will lead this PL, which is designed for Kindergarten to Year 2 teachers who already have some experience with inquiry-based teaching/learning and wish to extend their knowledge and classroom practice. In this PL, Kath takes teachers through a model for planning and teaching inquiry that builds students' understandings and interdisciplinary skills. Teachers will have an opportunity to reflect on their own planning as well as exploring ways to enhance the quality of inquiry planned with and for their students.
Some of the questions that will be investigated include:
- How do we provoke and sustain interest through an inquiry?
- How can we make the most of authentic moments/events and opportunities that present themselves for spontaneous inquiry?
- How can we use inquiry journeys as a context for building skills in literacy and numeracy?
- How can we plan and document inquiry in the early years?
- How can we balance curriculum expectations with children's interest as we plan for and with our students?
Targeted Audience: Kindergarten - Year 2 Teachers. This a repeat of Kath's 2016 workshop for AISWA, 'Planning Journeys of Inquiry in the Early Years'.
Participants will receive a copy of Kath Murdoch's book 'The Power of Inquiry'
