Description

AISWA, in partnership with AITSL, will conduct an implementation pilot of the Professional Standards for Middle Leaders in 2026. The purpose of this pilot is to strengthen the leadership capabilities of middle leaders, amplifying their impact as key agents of school improvement. Through a series of structured activities, participants will unpack the Middle Leader Standards to develop the dispositions, knowledge, and skills required for effective leadership. Participants will explore the capabilities needed for instructional leadership, build resilience and emotional wellbeing, and connect with peers through a supportive network. This initiative also provides evidence to guide future professional learning for middle leaders, ensuring leadership development aligns with the needs of schools and improves student progress and achievement. Participation is by invitation only.

Additional course dates will be added to this professional learning series. These dates will be confirmed in 2026. All additional dates will be hosted online.

Outcomes

  • Enable middle leaders to self-assess and be provided with clear feedback about their current capability to inform their professional growth/development plans.
  • Develop middle leaders’ understanding of the dispositions that enable them to be effective leaders who collaborate with others to solve complex problems.
  • Articulate the capabilities which are required for middle leaders to be effective instructional leaders.
  • Build collegial support through a peer support network.
  • Develop middle leader resilience, emotional wellbeing, and connection with other professionals.
  • Provide evidence to inform provision of professional learning to meet the needs of both Principals and Middle Leaders.
  • AISTL Middle Leader Standards 1 - 6 (inclusive)
