Description

Running meetings is a vital skill for educational leaders, yet the effectiveness of meetings that school leaders run is often questioned, particularly when they are perceived as repetitive, time-consuming, or lacking a clear purpose.

This workshop will develop middle leaders’ confidence and capacity to lead engaging, outcomes-focused meetings. We will explore practical strategies for structuring discussions, managing group dynamics and communicating with clarity and influence. Participants will refine their facilitation and presentation skills, learning how to build participation, maintain focus and drive collective decision-making. This workshop is for leaders keen to create a meeting culture that values staff time and sees the importance of promoting staff collaboration.

The significance of developing middle leaders’ skills was highlighted by the 2025 publication of AITSL’s ‘Australian Professional Standards for Middle Leaders’ and this workshop aligns with Standard 6 – ‘Managing effectively’.

Outcomes

By the end of this module, participants will be able to:

  • Structure and facilitate effective meetings that maximise participation and outcomes
  • Apply key principles of clear, concise and compelling presentation design and delivery
  • Adapt their communication style to engage diverse audiences in educational settings
  • Demonstrate greater confidence, authenticity and presence when speaking and facilitating
  • Use strategies to build trust, manage group dynamics and positively influence others
