Description

The term ‘non-suicidal self-injury’ (NSSI) describes a behaviour where a person deliberately or purposefully hurts themselves. It is used to refer to self-injury that is not intended to result in death.

When we use the term ‘self-injury’ we are specifically excluding painful or damaging behaviours that are socially accepted or ‘sanctioned’ such as tattooing, piercing or other forms of body art, and cultural practices involving injury.

This course gives participants an opportunity to learn how to help someone who is engaging in self-injury.

This is an education course, to learn how to give first aid to others, and is not a therapy or support group.

COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS

Following the outbreak of COVID-19 earlier this year, AISWA is continuing to incorporate additional precautions to assist in the prevention of the spread of the virus.

For Professional Learning sessions undertaken at our premises, these include:

  1. Hand sanitising stations and signage to remind all attendees of good hygiene practices.
  2. Encouraging social distancing
  3. Encouraging breaks to be held outside, weather permitting
  4. Where catering is included in your PL, we will ensure good hygiene standards are observed, this includes single-serve food items, disposable cups and single-use cutlery.
  5. We encourage you to please bring your own water bottle.
  6. We will ensure cleaning of the venue at suitable intervals.

We ask you do not attend our offices or any AISWA organised Professional learning sessions if any of the following effect you:

  1. If you have arrived in Australia from overseas in the past 14 days
  2. If you have had contact with any person with a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days
  3. If you have any cold or flu symptoms, for example, a cough, sore throat, runny nose or shortness of breath
