Description

As part of ongoing efforts to support primary school leaders across Australia, Be You has developed guidance on responding to distress and self-harm in younger students.

AISWA invites primary leaders, wellbeing teams, and pastoral care staff to join national and state Be You consultants for the release of the guide, 'Responding to distress, including self-harm: a guide for Australian primary schools'. The guide has been developed to provide primary schools with practical, evidence-based approaches to recognising and responding to distress, including self-harm. It sits alongside state and territory/school-based policies and processes.

The second part of the session will present the new Be You 'Responding to Sudden Death in a Primary School' materials. Grounded in evidence-based and trauma-informed practice, the session explores key response principles, including how to inform, support, and manage the impact of a sudden death in your school community in a safe and coordinated way.

Outcomes

This workshop is designed to:

• Build staff confidence in responding to distress and self-harm
• Strengthen school-wide approaches aligned with the Be You guide
• Provide opportunities for discussion, reflection, and practical application.
