Description
The Language of Arts workshops will support educators in providing multiple ways for children to develop, expand and express their language skills and understandings through the Arts. Each term you will have the opportunity to engage with local artists who will support you in developing the skills necessary to introduce the materials and experiences into your classroom.
The Language of Arts series is aimed at assisting educators to support young children develop the skills they need to express their learning. Through drawing, painting, sculpting, dramatic play, music, writing and digital exploration young children can extend their understanding and communicate their knowledge in extraordinary ways. As educators it is important that we provide both the opportunity for children to explore, experiment and play with these materials as well as the practical skills they need. During this series of 'hands-on' workshops you will be working with local artists to explore materials, techniques and ideas for working with children.
The final workshop in our 2021 Language of Arts series is Nature Inspired Felting, presented by artist and award-winning children' book illustrator Karen Blair.
Enjoy learning the warm, woolly wet-felting technique in this introduction session with Karen. Experiment with blending colours, creating organic shapes while you transform fibre into fabric in a fun and relaxing activity which can be enjoyed in early years classrooms.
Each child has a hundred languages, a hundred hands, a hundred ways of thinking of playing, a hundred joys for singing and understanding, a hundred worlds to discover, a hundred worlds to invent and a hundred worlds to dream
(Excerpt from `The Hundred Languages of Children' by Loris Malaguzzi).
