This is four-day Professional Learning workshop for Early Childhood teachers presented by Kristin Humphreys and David Dunstan. It is designed to equip educators to:
- Deliver the Western Australia Mathematics Curriculum
- Plan using a range of ‘Trajectories’ and ‘Threads’, created with Dr Paul Swan
- Build a mathematical mindset community in your classroom
- Create collaborative group work activities to develop reasoning
- Explore pre-assessment tasks and how to analyse data for differentiation
- Discover reflection tools to consolidate children’s learning
- Learn how ‘Number Talks’ develop mathematical language, discuss and reasoning
- Walk away with free resources for the classroom
Presenters
Kristin Humphreys (AISWA Staff)
Numeracy Consultant
Kristin Humphreys has been working at AISWA for the past five years in the roles of Australian Curriculum Mathematics Consultant and currently as a Numeracy Consultant. She has a Graduate Diploma in Primary Education and has taught at West Australian Government and Independent Schools. Kristin has experience with inquiry based learning and has training and knowledge of the International Baccalaureate (IB) and the Primary Years Program (PYP). She has worked with numerous schools to re-write and produce a Numeracy/Mathematics Policy for their school. Kristin has created various planners and scope and sequence documents, located on the AISWA website, to assist teachers with effective planning.
She is an accomplished presenter and co-author of ’10 Minutes Tops’, a book of 20 reflection tools for all learning areas. Kristin completed her Masters of Education in Learning Difficulties in 2012 and has independently researched the effective use of iPads in the primary mathematics classroom. This research has led to multiple teacher workshops and many schools implementing effective iPad teaching and learning strategies. Kristin has a passion for hands-on learning experiences, innovation and technology in the classroom.
David Dunstan (AISWA Staff)
Numeracy Coordinator
David is the AISWA Numeracy Coordinator and has worked with AISWA for over 13 years. He taught mathematics to rural students in WA for 28 years. David regularly presents at state and national conferences, and delivers ‘hands-on’ workshops, which includes, “A Whole School Approach to Teaching Place Value” and “Using Cards and Counters to Link the Proficiencies”. In collaboration with Dr Paul Swan, David has co-authored 27 books, which includes the “Check the Clues” series, “My Word Book: Mathematics” and the 2023 published, “Teaching Place Value” series.
