Description
Guidance on what questions to ask and information to gather when enrolling a student for whom English is an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D).
In order to maximise and expedite support for EAL/D students, schools need to gather important information at the point of enrolment. This session is designed for school staff who are involved as the first point of contact with the student and their family.
The aim of the session is to:
- provide examples of questions to ask to gain insight into language proficiency
- provide advice and information to give families from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds
- discuss how to use student data once it has been collected
- share advice about how to access translators and interpreters.
