Description
This workshop uses Polya's four - step process as the foundation for a adopting a whole school approach to problem solving in mathematics. A simple map will illustrate when problem solving strategies may be introduced, with a particular emphasis for years 3 to 6. A range of problem solving tasks that have been successfully used in classrooms, will be work-shopped, and these tasks will incorporate reasoning and fluency skills that will assist in developing the students' mathematical understandings. Each participant will receive a problem solving book.
Please note that this workshop is not specifically designed to deal with 'NAPLAN - STYLE' questions, but many of the principles outlined may be applied to solving word questions in general.
