Description

Research shows that the workload of school leaders and teachers has increased over the last two decades (NASSP, LPI). What this means is that leaders and teachers are at risk of being spread too thin and are constantly being reactive rather than proactive. Sound familiar?

In this presentation, international thought eaders Peter DeWitt and Michael Nelson will begin by focusing on developing internal and external self-awareness around participant’s leadership behavior and their initiatives. Participants will learn how to use that self-awareness to declutter ineffective practices, understanding how we got there in the first place, and help participants find a balance between implementation and de-implementation.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be equipped with actionable strategies to improve instructional practices, engage families and communities meaningfully, and leverage technological advances like AI to support their leadership efforts.

Success Criteria

During the learning, you will be able to identify:

  • Actions to develop internal and external self-awareness that help to understand how to find a balance between being proactive and reactive.
  • The role of technological advances such as AI to help support leadership moves.
  • What de-implementation means and how to engage in de-implementation practices.
  •  How our mindsets force us to contribute to our own workload.
  • What constitutes low value practices.
  • How to declutter formally and informally.
  • What can be replaced or reduced.
  • The process of decluttering and how to get back to finding the joy in teaching, learning and leading.
