Description
Join mathematics consultant Sheila Griffin for a hands-on, practical exploration of mathematics in the early years. This full-day workshop will immerse educators in play-based, inquiry-driven approaches to numeracy that spark curiosity, build confidence, and connect deeply with children’s everyday experiences.
Through hands-on provocations, rich discussions, and real-world examples, participants will explore different ways to embed mathematical thinking into play environments, routines, and intentional teaching moments. The session will align with the EYLF V2.0, Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines, and the WA Curriculum, ensuring educators leave with strategies that are both inspiring and curriculum-connected.
Outcomes

- Strengthen curriculum planning by embedding mathematics into inquiry-based learning aligned with EYLF V2.0 Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners.
- Connect mathematical learning to the Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines, supporting children's thinking, problem-solving, and reasoning.
- Develop strategies to observe and document mathematical thinking, using play as a lens for formative assessment.
- Reflect on the educator’s role in fostering mathematical language, curiosity, and confidence through intentional interactions.
- Create inclusive and culturally responsive maths experiences that honour children's diverse ways of knowing and engaging with the world.
