Children as Authors - Professional Learning Teams

Description

The primary purpose of Professional Learning Teams is to support teachers in improving student learning by changing their instruction.

Andrea has been supporting and empowering PLT across many different school settings. This ongoing project will involve working with Andrea as a Professional Learning Team to implement a purposeful inquiry with the focus of teaching writers.

Before the workshops (March and September) schools will be provided with tasks and professional reading to complete prior to the date. In May and November, there will be professional learning via Skype with further tasks and readings provided - four contact points over the year (two workshops and two Skype conversations).

Throughout the project the teams will be supported by:

- Analysing data

- Accessing current research

- Reflecting on current classroom practice

- Setting SMART goals

- Planning action for success

Andrea currently collaborates with several primary schools who share the genuine focus of their children being authors. 

Some of the strategies explored will be:

- Hooks to engage the writers

- Learning experiences that inspire writers

- Effective use of mentor texts

- Implementation of Writer's Notebook

- Strategies to publish and celebrate writing

Each Professional Learning Team will receive a copy of The Writing Strategies Book - Jennifer Serravallo
