Join us for an informative session tailored for Business Managers and senior staff who are new to Disability Funding and Compliance. Led by Amanda Fernihough, AISWA’s Manager of Inclusive Education, this event will demystify funding systems for students with disability, clarify essential funding terminology, and outline AISWA’s support and training opportunities, including NCCD courses.
Also joining us for the session is Alistair Talbert, Special Counsel at CCIWA, who will speak to Psychosocial Risks in Schools -Understanding your obligations and managing emerging risks.
Independent schools are facing increasing workforce challenges, with psychosocial hazards becoming a significant area of focus under Western Australia's Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation.
Business Managers & key staff play a critical role in identifying, assessing and managing these risks to support staff wellbeing and minimise organisational risk.
This practical session will explore the evolving landscape of psychosocial hazards in schools, including workplace stress, unreasonable workloads, bullying, harassment, aggression from parents, role ambiguity, change fatigue and the impact of increasingly complex student and family needs.
Participants will gain an understanding of their obligations under the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA) and associated regulations, with a focus on psychosocial risks introduced under the WHS framework.
Nigel Briggs, AISWA Industrial Relations Consultant, will also be on hand to share insights and provide an update on current industrial matters.

Diana is a qualified CPA Accountant, having worked as a Business Manager for a K-12 Day & Boarding school for 15 years.

With over two decades working across various educational sectors, including Independent, Catholic, and Government schools, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role. Nigel Briggs (AISWA Staff)

Nigel joined AISWA in 2017 after 18 years with the Independent Education Union of WA, including 16 as Assistant Secretary (Industrial Relations). He is known for building strong relationships across the education sector and providing reliable, timely advice. At AISWA, Nigel supports member schools on industrial relations, HR and workplace health and safety, and provides guidance on legal matters, including staff and student welfare, duty of care, and discrimination issues.
Alistair Talbert
Alistair is an experienced legal professional who delivers strategic workplace solutions to clients across the private, public and not-for-profit sector.
Alistair’s expertise spans all aspects of employment, work health and safety and industrial relations, with a strong focus on dispute resolution, organisational governance, compliance and achieving practical operational outcomes. He provides clear, pragmatic advice and represents clients in a range of jurisdictions, assisting them to navigate disputes, manage risk and implement sustainable workplace strategies.
Known for his collaborative and inclusive approach, Alistair works effectively with diverse stakeholders, from boards and executives to frontline managers, to develop tailored solutions. He combines strong analytical capability with deep knowledge of employment, discrimination and work health and safety laws to deliver successful outcomes.
Alistair has over 15 years’ experience in work health and safety law and has assisted clients to manage serious workplace incidents. This has included acting for clients to manage regulator investigations, dealing with regulator issued notices and defending WHS prosecutions.
