Description

Join us for a professional development event designed for accounting and finance professionals in the education not-for-profit sector. This morning session, presented by Ralph Martin, Partner – National Technical, RSM Australia, and Domenic Zappa, Senior Manager – Audit & Assurance, RSM Australia who will provide a practical refresher on the latest financial reporting and accounting standards relevant to the sector.

The session will look ahead to upcoming standards, including AASB 18 Presentation and Disclosure in Financial Statements, and revisit and refresh practical application of:

AASB 15 – Revenue from Contracts with Customers

AASB 1058 – Income of Not-for-Profit Entities (including concessionary loans and accounting for enrolment/ application fees)

AASB 16 – Leases

We'll also discuss emerging developments for ACNC registered entities in financial reporting, provide clarity on the differences between Special-Purpose and General-Purpose Financial Statements (supported by real-world examples), and dedicate a one-hour segment to the updated APES 110 Code of Ethics, focusing on Independence Standards and ethical expectations for accountants.

This event delivers practical insights and up-to-date knowledge to support NFP compliance and governance — ideal for finance professionals, school business managers, and NFP leaders wanting to stay ahead.

He provides technical leadership across the firm on Australian Accounting Standards, Auditing Standards, and emerging financial reporting developments. Ralph is a trusted advisor to partners, clients, and audit teams on complex technical accounting matters, and is a regular presenter at RSM's professional development sessions on standards interpretation and application.

Domenic is a Senior Manager in RSM Australia's Audit & Assurance division, based in Perth. He leads financial statement audits across the public sector, not-for-profit, and education industries, with deep experience in applying Australian Accounting Standards and Auditing Standards to NFP and government-funded entities. Domenic works closely with CFOs, finance managers, boards, and finance committees, and brings practical, real-world insights from auditing schools and not-for-profit organisations.
