Description

Many teachers are feeling overwhelmed, disengaged or uncertain when it comes to respectful relationships and consent education. While the importance of this work is widely acknowledged, there is growing confusion about what schools are actually expected to deliver, how much detail is appropriate, and where responsibility sits across a school community.

This practical and reassuring webinar helps teachers and school leaders understand why respectful relationships education requires a whole-school approach, what that looks like in practice, and how to move beyond surface-level language to meaningful understanding for students.

The session will also address the growing noise in the sector, new funding streams, and competing claims of expertise. It will help schools feel more confident about how to align existing programs rather than adding more on top.

Outcomes

Participants will:

  • Clarify what schools are actually expected to teach in relation to respectful relationships and consent.
  • Understand why student confidence (“we already know this”) does not equal deep understanding.
  • Explore the role every staff member plays in shaping a respectful school culture – not just HPE or wellbeing staff.
  • Reduce confusion and fatigue by learning how to align existing programs and resources rather than layering new ones.
  • Gain language and framing they can take back to leadership teams to advocate for a whole-school approach.
  • Feel more confident, less overwhelmed, and clearer about next steps.
