Description

This online presentation is part of the AISWA 2020 Vision online event. AISWA Teachers and Leaders are invited to register for as many sessions as they wish, from the seven 20 minute presentations on offer. The meeting link/s will be emailed to those on the registration list the Friday before.

AISWA 2020 Vision is a celebration of what worked and how we might continue positive initiatives into 2021.

The voice of AISWA teachers and leaders is an important component of this event and some sessions will be hosted by an AISWA Consultant with one or two invited guests to share an initiative from their school community. Looking beyond 2020, special projects and Professional Learning opportunities for 2021 will also be shared. Please check the AISWA PL Calendar for other sessions by searching Nov 16.

Sharp Reading is an efficient and effective approach to running guided reading that focuses on fluent decoding in the early years and comprehension improvement in the primary years. Al Hidayah Islamic school adopted Sharp Reading across the whole school a few years ago and is a great success story. The biggest change being higher levels of engagement, enthusiasm for reading and amazing progress across the school.

Principal, Robert Mayze and classroom teacher, Sr. Joanna from Al Hidayah Islamic school, will share their Sharp Reading journey from when it was first introduced to the school and how it has been embraced by teachers and students alike. Joanna currently teaches year 5/6 and has also taught in the early years so can share her story working across all stages of Sharp Reading. Robert will also share some data to show significant reading improvement. Their continuing journey is one to be celebrated.
