Description

This conference aims to encourage all of us to take responsibility, question, discuss and participate in the change to school leadership teams so they are as diverse, inclusive and representative of the students and communities they serve.

Currently, 81.9% of primary teachers are female and 61.1% of secondary teachers (ABS, 2020). The percentage of female Principals in AISWA schools is 44.4% (AISWA Membership Booklet, 2020). Research into factors that impact the leadership aspirations of women in teaching suggests that there is a variety of reasons for these figures.  Recognised strategies for moving towards parity and diversity in school leadership are special programs and networks which demystify, inform and encourage those who have not previously seen school leadership as 'for them'. Specifically, this conference encourages and equips aspiring women leaders to step forward on the pathway of their leadership journey; whether that is into a first leadership position, executive position or a  Principal position.
COVID has necessitated the development of a homegrown conference for aspiring women leaders which is different to, but builds on the excellent leadership conferences previously facilitated by Karen Spiller and Ros Curtis.  We have planned this conference so that it is suitable for both new and past delegates. This conference enables you to learn from others and plan a personal learning pathway from your selection of workshops and coaching to take you from where you are now and to plan for where you would like to go next.

The conference includes a range of inspirational guest speakers (Tina Altieri, Tania Cecconi, Wies Bratby), workshops and coaching offered by current school leaders to develop participant knowledge and skills, and several networking opportunities. As Principals and other senior leaders are often the most effective mentors and facilitators of leadership learning, this conference draws upon the experiences of practicing leaders in schools. Interactive workshop sessions focus on sharing experienced-based wisdom about effective leadership practice and, through stories, encourage reflection on leadership learning and preparation.

So, come and join us for our Stepping Forward into Leadership Conference, held in the beautiful surrounds of our host school - St Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls. Along with provoking some deep thinking and commitment to our own paths and contribution to schools, there is a lot of laughter and meeting of like minds – no one ever seems to want to leave. So, have a look at the program and call me for a conversation if you need to, Nicola Davidson 0407 695 829.

“We should always have three friends in our lives-one who walks ahead who we look up to and follow; one who walks beside us, who is with us every step of our journey; and then, one who we reach back for and bring along after we've cleared the way.”   Michelle Obama
