Description

We should always have three friends in our lives - one who walks ahead who we look up to and follow;  one who walks beside us, who is with us every step of our journey;  and then, who we reach back for and bring along after we've cleared the way.  Michelle Obama

The network invites you to come and play all of these roles.
As a member of the Network you are entitled to access:
  • the four network meetings;
  • a Mentoring and shadowing event;
  • a film night in Leederville to see The Leadership

Network Meetings
The afternoon network meetings are for anyone interested in gender equality and the role of women in educational leadership. The meetings will be held at AISWA Professional Learning Suites each term on Wednesday. The meetings allow for networking from 4.30pm to 5.00pm with nibbles and a glass of bubbles followed by a speaker from 5.00pm to 5.30pm.

We welcome new members and encourage you to invite your colleagues to join the Network.  The dates are as follows:
  • Wednesday, 3 March
  • Wednesday, 19 May
  • Wednesday, 18 August
  • Wednesday, 10 November

Film and Mentoring Evenings
We are in the process of confirming details and dates for the mentoring evening and the film night. Updated information will be sent to you by email as it becomes available.

You will notice that when you register you are paying for all the Network events up front – regardless of whether you can attend all of them or not. This seems to be the fairest and most effective way to proceed.

‘In addressing this issue, some valuable lessons about women in leadership can be learned from the experience of business and other sectors, however, the unique context in education, of a lack of female principals in a predominantly female workforce, require exploration. This needs to be undertaken urgently, as Australia faces a major challenge in identifying and developing the next generation of school leaders, I believe that a strategic and cohesive national approach is required to meet that challenge and the women in our teacher workforce have a crucial role to play.’  Barbara Watterston (2010, p11)
