Description
This full-day workshop, led by mathematics consultant Sheila Griffin, focuses on effective use of the concrete–representational–abstract (CRA) approach in mathematics teaching. With an emphasis on concrete materials and making the proficiencies visible in the classroom, participants will explore a wide range of hands-on resources and practical strategies for using them across year levels. Educators will engage in activities that deepen understanding of key mathematical concepts and examine how concrete experiences support students’ transition to representational and abstract thinking. The session will also highlight ways to design tasks that promote reasoning, fluency, understanding, and problem-solving within everyday classroom practice.
Outcomes
Increased confidence to plan and deliver lessons aligned to the WA Mathematics Curriculum.
Deeper knowledge of Concrete Representational Abstract mode.
Teachers will have a selection of engaging hands-on activities and resources that support differentiated learning and assessment.
