Learning Support Teacher - Junior School

Description

0.7FTE Ongoing Permanent

Commencing January 2025

The Junior School is a community of approximately 400 boys and their parents, and over 50 staff.  Being the point of entry for many boys, the Junior School is an integral component of the wider School community.  For this reason, we enjoy the support, facilities and sense of pride evident across the whole School.  Following the completion of an extensive building project, three new learning centres were completed in 2018.  The Lower Junior, Middle Junior and Upper Junior accommodates two streams of classes from Pre-primary to Year 3 and three streams from Year 4 to Year 6.

Hale School is seeking applications from an experienced Learning Support Teacher to join the broader Junior School teaching team. This role works directly with students with learning difficulties and or disabilities in our Middle Junior Learning Centre (students in Years 3 and 4). In addition, the Learning Support Teacher is in constant collaboration with classroom teachers to make reasonable adjustments to learning experiences to enable identified students to access curriculum at an appropriate level of learning. This role will be responsible for overseeing and co-ordinating the academic support and intervention, with a particular focus on providing adjustments in literacy and numeracy. The Middle Junior Learning Support Teacher collaborates extensively with the Learning Support Team (which includes the Junior School Psychologist), sharing and gathering information, to ensure individual student needs are identified, communicated, planned for, assessed and reflected upon. In addition, the Learning Support Teacher will frequently communicate with additional stakeholders, including parents and external specialists, to support and cater for specific student needs.

The successful applicant’s teaching will vary between one-on-one support, small group work learning as well as whole class teaching. This teacher will work collaboratively with the broader Junior School team, including Specialist Teachers and Education Assistants.

The Learning Support Teacher will be an integral part of the whole Junior School team and bring an outstanding level of educational knowledge in the area of learning disabilities/difficulties as well as a high degree of energy, optimism and collegiality to the Junior School context.

The successful candidate will:

  • hold appropriate teaching qualifications.

  • have a firm commitment to independent schooling and be in sympathy with the Christian ethos of the School.

  • be eligible to teach within Western Australia. This will involve associated Police Clearances, registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA) and a current Working with Children (WWC) Check.

Applicants are asked to:

  • Provide a one page covering letter.

  • Submit a curriculum vitae which includes your philosophy of teaching and learning, and which also includes the names and contact numbers of three referees, one of whom must be the current employer.
