Hensman Street Elementary (formally Hensman Street Kindy) is a not-for-profit, community school catering for Playgroup, Pre-Kindy, Kindy and Pre-Primary to Year 3 in the South Perth area.  The school has been operating since 1977 and is registered as an independent school with Department of Education Services.  Hensman Street Elementary is a best practice school with regards to the delivery of Science in the early years.  As the first Little Scientists School in WA, our programs are rich in STEAM focused education (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics).

Due to the recent expansion of our program, Hensman Street Elementary is seeking teacher to join our team – Graduates and Early Career Teachers welcome to apply.  The role is for 1.0FTE  in our  year 1-3 Multi-age group class teaching, with an interest in Neurodiversity.   Job Share is an option so please feel free to apply. The Educator Roles 

As the Early Childhood Teacher, you will –

  • be responsible for providing an engaging, play-based inquiry style program, initiating and implementing new ideas, and adapting the program to suit the needs of the children/group;  
  • have a strong science focus, and follow the philosophy of the school;  
  • have a strong interest in Nature Pedagogies and STEAM 
  • have a strong interest in Visual Arts 
  • have a keen interest in community involvement and recycling 
  • developing an understanding of the Noongar language and culture
  • have excellent communication skills in order to liaise with children, parents, colleagues and the wider community, as well as dedication to deliver a creative and flexible inquiry program;
  • be required to comply with relevant legislation and keep abreast of changes;  
  • play a significant role in representing the School to parents and the wider community.  

Early Childhood Teacher (1.0 FTE) to work 2024 as a fixed term contract, ending December 31st 2024, with possible extension for the right candidate.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Sound understanding of the National Quality Standards, Early Years Learning Framework and SCSA Pre-Primary - year 3 Curriculum appropriate means of monitoring and assessing student achievement.
  • Ability to contribute to setting and working within a tight operating budget.
  • A strong Science influence in previous employment is highly sought after.
  • Ability to work as a team and providing support to upkeep of the educational areas as we have many groups using the space and interest in sustainability and gardening. 
  • COVID Vaccination status as required by Health Dept Directions.

  • Supervise student teachers.

  • Provide a child-led program. 

Selection Criteria for Early Childhood Teachers 

  • Describe your philosophy on child-led, play-based learning and its importance
  • Describe your own personal pedagogy
  • Describe the best experience you have had with a group of children and why
  • Your biggest asset to becoming a teacher, and why you should be considered for an interview.

Application Requirements:

The minimum qualifications for teaching early childhood as prescribed by the National Quality Standards (ACECQA approved) and Department of Education. 

An application letter outlining suitability to the above Selection Criteria. Failure to address the selection criteria will result in your application not being considered.  No more than 3 pages. 

A copy of your Curriculum Vitae including the units and grades in your qualification.

The name, phone number and relationship to three referees.

A copy of your current registration with the Teacher Registration Board (TRBWA) or notice if you are awaiting an outcome. 

A copy of your current Working With Children Check.

A copy of current First Aid qualifications, with CPR, Asthma and Anaphylaxis Training – this will be available to complete as part of your first week at the school if not already current.
