Description

This 14 hour course teaches adults how to assist adolescents who are experiencing a mental health crisis or developing a mental health problem. The course is suitable for adults working with adolescents (those aged between 12 and 18 years), however, it can also be relevant for those helping people who are a little younger or older. Course Content Participants will learn about adolescent development and the signs and symptoms of these mental health problems, where and how to get help and what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective.

Julie is an Educational and Developmental Psychologist who has worked with Non-Government schools in Western Australia for over thirty years. Julie is currently the lead of the AISWA School Psychology Service. She has a passion for sharing psychological knowledge to support schools in optimising the learning, development and wellbeing of students.  As part of the school psychology service, she works with children, parents, carers and teachers to help them understand issues students may experience. Julie is a current psychology board approved supervisor who has a passion for supporting the professional growth and development of psychologists. 

Tammy Barnes (AISWA Staff)

Senior Psychologist

Tammy Barnes <span>(AISWA Staff)</span>

Tammy is a Senior Psychologist at AISWA. Tammy has been working as a psychologist with schools at AISWA for over 11 years. Prior to working for AISWA, she worked with schools in the public sector. Tammy has worked in diverse settings in WA which has included working with schools in remote, rural, and metropolitan locations. Part of her work has included delivering training in Youth Mental Health First Aid, Gatekeeper Suicide Prevention Training and Aussie Optimism Program. Tammy is passionate about mental health prevention and intervention in schools, including the implementation of social and emotional learning programs.
