Description

Learning to spell conventionally is not something that comes naturally. It requires teaching. But sometimes this teaching is not very clear or explicit...or engaging for the learner. Teachers have tried many different approaches to the teaching of spelling.

This PL Project, conducted in partnership with Lisa Burman, is an opportunity to build knowledge and confidence in English orthography and learn a number of core strategies and tools for word inquiry. It seeks to offer some clarity over all the competing messages about the English orthographic system and draws on the inspiring work of educators and researchers such as Misty Adoniou, Tessa Daffern, Fiona Hamilton, Dr. Pete Bowers, Diane Snowball, and Faye Bolton.

Following on from the first 'taster' webinar the sessions for the remainder of 2023 are an opportunity to learn more about word inquiry to support students' spelling and vocabulary (2 of the NAPLAN writing criteria)

The sessions will be:
 - Access to an eCourse - Spelling Investigations - ongoing
 - Thurs 25 May Q&A about ideas from Ecourse - Webinar
 - Tuesday 20 June More Strategies and Ideas  - Webinar
 - Friday 18 August In-person Workshop day - to be held in Perth.  Lunch will be provided

A short student survey will be sent for you to use as a pre and post-data collection tool.
