Description
While many teachers of computing in Years 7-10 are trained subject specialists, there are also as many teachers for whom Digital Technologies is a newer area of teaching responsibility.
This workshop, provided by the federally funded CSER project via AISWA, would be especially useful for teachers who are less familiar with the concepts of Digital Technologies and need some inspiration for activities.
Steven Payne, the Western Australian support officer for the nationally accredited CSER online Digital Technologies courses, will lead the workshop and introduce the CSER 7-8 and (brand new) 9-10 MOOCs, their activities and the wealth of resources to be found in the associated online community of teachers. The 7-8 course is designed around an app development context, although the problem-solving approaches and techniques used can be used in any digital technologies context. In the 9-10 course, we take a project-based approach within the context of game development, working through stages from identifying your game, identifying the data requirements, design, implementation and testing.
Steven will assist participants to enrol in the CSER MOOC and ensure everyone can find the resources. Jan Clarke, AISWA Technologies subject consultant, will be available to discuss any curriculum issues or queries you may have about planning, assessment and reporting according to WA Curriculum guidelines.
Do consider this opportunity if you are new to teaching Digital Technologies in middle school!
