As early childhood educators our aim is to inspire, support and nurture our students so that they develop identities as confident and engaged readers and thinkers. AISWA invites you to join Andrea Hillbrick for an ongoing project focused on teaching engaged readers. During the project you will have the opportunity to investigate: • Hooks to engage readers • Teaching Approaches that enable and extend readers • Independent reading • Reading Conferences • Comprehension Strategies • Learning experiences that motivate readers • Effective use of mentor texts Andrea will be available for mentoring and support, sharing with you a host of practical strategies that will provide your students with the will and skill to engage in reading and become meaning makers. You will also receive a copy of The Reading Strategies Book by Jennifer Serravallo, a book of ‘reading recipes’ or strategies to support differentiated instruction and target specific literacy goals.
