Description
This day of professional learning, run by Educated by Nature, takes a look at different types of outdoor classrooms and the potential for taking curriculum outdoors. The workshop will look at some benefits and research around learning in nature and how it impacts both students and teachers. Inspirational stories will be told of outdoor learning in action from simple, single lessons, to utilising school spaces and even visiting nearby bushland on a regular basis. The workshop includes recommendations for starting outdoor learning including observing students, resourcing a space, developing a culture of learning and risk assessing. In the afternoon, time will be spent outdoors experiencing some nature connection routines of gratitude, ecology and observation games, wondering and wandering, mindfulness and journaling. Through this experience, educators will learn how to string these activities together in a program to suit students’ engagement and energy.
