Description

Nature Pedagogy and Practice - South West Network Meeting AISWA Early Childhood is offering schools in the South West region a Nature Pedagogy workshop aimed at providing educators with the skills, knowledge and confidence to make nature pedagogy a sustainable and ongoing part of their early childhood classroom practice. During this Nature Pedagogy South West Network Meeting/Workshop participants will explore nature journaling as a way to build botanic literacy in ourselves and in the children we teach through connecting to nature. Connection to nature is important, especially as we venture beyond the walls of our classrooms. Whether we are situating our play and learning in a nature playground, or a bush, beach or river area, it becomes important to acquire an understanding of our natural environment. Nature journaling helps us, and our children, to slow down and pay attention to the natural world around us. A nature journal might include sketches, pressed flowers, notes and labels, poetry, rubbing or photographs. While there are no rules, through the process of journaling we acquire botanical knowledge and a deeper connection to our natural environment. Author/Illustrator Karen Blair will work with participants exploring a range of different art mediums, ideas and techniques that will support nature journaling. This workshop is hands-on and practical so come dressed for the occasion. All attendees will receive a small gift to start their own Nature Journal. Numbers are limited and registrations are essential. Presenters Rebekah Garwood Karen Blair
