Description

MinecraftEdu is a custom edition of the popular online game with features designed especially for classroom use and a hosting service to get users connecting and playing collaboratively, either on a school server or in the cloud. (We will be showcasing the easier-to-manage “cloud” service.) For information go to Minecraft Edu.

A library of lessons and activities is available for free, as well as a very active teacher community that promotes uses of Minecraft in the classroom. Over 5,500 teachers in 40+ countries have used MinecraftEdu to teach subjects from STEM to Language to History to Art.

This full day workshop provides teachers with an opportunity to:

  • Understand the pedagogy of using computer games in education - benefits and challenges
  • Get advice from a practitioner who has introduced Minecraft and examples from others
  • Learn how to set up a cloud server, the hosting options and costs
  • Consider cross-curricular links, including Technologies and ICT General Capabilities,
  • Have time to exploring available resources
  • Learn to use Minecraft, build some skills and see the potential for yourself.
