Who is this program for?

The focus of this course is on the shifting role of those in the crucial positions of middle leadership. It is a practical research based course designed to assist middle leaders to prioritise and integrate some of the complex tasks they are asked to undertake.  Please note this course covers four discrete modules and participants are welcome to attend any one or all three days.  Please note that you will need to enrol in each day separately.
 
The audience for this course
  • those who hold a Head of Department role. It may also be of interest to those who are mentoring and supporting the work of colleagues, such as deputies and secondary year coordinators
  • those who have either a named or unnamed middle leadership position in the primary school. This includes deputies; and literacy, numeracy, subject, and year level coordinators. It may also be of interest to those who are mentoring and supporting the work of colleagues.
 

Day 2 Leading the Teaching and Learning

  • ways of developing and leading professional learning teams will be shared
  • reflection on frameworks and models of the development of teacher practice; and
  • build understandings of how to model and build reflective practices in staff
    Developing self and others
  • investigating different models of classroom observation and giving feedback
  • investigate mentoring, instructional coaching and collegial coaching
  • the change process and factors which facilitate effective change will be investigated

Nicola is committed to the transformative possibilities of education. She has a keen interest in working with others to implement research and policy into practical processes and strategies. She has had 20 years experience in leadership positions with independent and government schools. She has worked in both school and policy settings where much of her work was about gaining consensus from diverse interest groups.  Nicola is keen to work with teachers and school leaders to translate their vision into practice and to help them link the work they currently do with the AITSL standards.
