Description

This is an introduction to using the BBC micro:bit microcontroller board, and Microsoft’s easy and powerful MakeCode block-based coding environment.
In this hands-on session, we will use the BBC micro:bit and explore ways that this can be used to support the Digital Technologies curriculum and ideas for cross-curricular projects.

The BBC micro:bit is an inexpensive pocket-sized computer that you can code, customise and control to bring your digital ideas, games and apps to life.

The super easy, non-intimidating user experience and extensive wireless and sensor features mean it can be used across the school, including curriculum subjects such as science, design, maths, music, art and computing.
Attendees will have hands-on time learning the exciting features of the micro:bit and explore lesson activities for students to invent, plan and create digital solutions with applications across the curriculum.

After exploring the capabilities of the micro:bit, teachers will work in groups to solve real-world problems.

We have a limited supply of micro:bits and kits to use on the day, however please feel free to bring your own micro:bits, inventors kits, and other add-ons to explore.

Please bring a fully charged laptop or iPad. Morning tea and lunch are included.
