Description
Mathematics can be complicated to teach, therefore we want to maximise the time spent with students and the tasks that we provide for them. In this one-day session we will briefly examine some HIGH IMPACT TEACHING STRATEGIES (HITS). A few HITS will be chosen and applied specifically to the teaching of mathematics. Participants will be given a brief background reading to illustrate key HITS that can be shared with colleagues at school. Sample tasks will be shared that illustrate how HITS may be incorporated into the teaching of mathematics. Opportunities will be provided to discuss various school contexts and to focus on certain HITS most applicable to individual school contexts. To this end, it would be ideal if two participants could attend, one with a leadership role such as a deputy or numeracy leader. Support materials will be provided to help participants implement chosen High Impact Teaching Strategies within their school. Each participant will also receive a problem-solving resource book.
