Description

Unsure about grammar or the English language strand in the WA Curriculum? Come along to this half-day workshop in the July holidays.

It is expected that in Year 1, students will be able to "identify the parts of a simple sentence that represent 'What's happening?', 'What state is being described?', 'Who or what is involved?' and the surrounding circumstances". Once this basis has been established, students should be able to build complexities around these three groupings: verb groups (What's happening? What state is being described?), noun groups/phrases (Who or what is involved?) and adverb groups/phrases (the surrounding circumstances) as they progress through schooling.

This active half-day workshop will support teachers to develop understandings that can support student learning as their knowledge of grammar develops.

Three more half-day workshops are proposed in order to build knowledge about grammar at the clause/sentence level, the paragraph/whole-text level and the word level. As each workshop will build on the previous one, it will be necessary to complete the first workshop (or to have successfully completed Grammar in the WA Curriculum, Workbook One: The Bricks) before registering for the second workshop.
