Description
The developmental of Fundamental Movement Skills in the early years is critical for a lifelong commitment to health and physical activity. The skills learned are the building blocks for a wide range of physical activities.
This PL will provide generalist and specialist Primary Teachers (Pre-Primary – Year 3) with an update of these critical skills and include a range of teaching strategies and assessment tasks. We will also look at adjustments that can be made to allow for children with additional needs to fully participate in the learning experiences.
This PL will include practical activities and you are encouraged to wear clothing that supports active participation.
Please arrive 8.30am for registration and 9.00am start.
Presenters
Janeen Thomsett
Janeen started her teaching career as a secondary HPE teacher and after 20 years in schools joined ECU as a lecturer in HPE and teaching practice coordinator. She then entered the world of Primary and Early childhood HPE and taught programs in this learning area for many years.
Janeen is passionate about the teaching of FMS and creating a safe and exciting learning environment for our children. She is keen to provide support to teachers in this area as she is aware that many generalist primary and early childhood teachers have the enthusiasm and willingness to provide effective movement programs, however, their knowledge of what to teach and how to teach it can be limited.
Janeen is currently undertaking research into the pedagogical content knowledge required of the generalist classroom teacher to be confident and competent teachers of movement.
